Worldwide Coverage
We act as a single point of contact for research projects undertaken anywhere in the world. Our services and reports have been used by governments and companies from Europe to the Middle East to Asia. Our London-based staff members speak a variety of languages.

Specialisation
Our specialist areas are energy and the environment, infrastructure development, information technology and risk management. We have also extended our expertise into such areas as transportation, agriculture, postal services, petrochemicals, and healthcare.

Qualified Staff
Our staff members and associate consultants and researchers are experts in their fields, which include law, accounting, finance, economics, engineering, energy, environment, marketing, international trade and international relations.

Diverse Services
Our research and consulting expertise covers diverse areas including:

  • Macroeconomics Advice
As part of our service to investors, we provide macroeconomic advice about various countries, including the new EU member countries and the Gulf Co-operation Council countries. We assess present and future economic conditions, investment policies, the legal environment and other areas as required.

  • Sector Analysis
We frequently provide sector (and market) analysis to companies planning to enter the European market or expand their operations in Europe. We regularly assess the following markets in Europe and neighbouring regions: energy (such as gas, electricity, and renewable energy), infrastructure development (energy-related assets, transportation and PFI/PPP), IT (e-government programmes and software for O&M of assets), and petrochemicals (various petro-derivative products).

  • Policy and Regulation Analysis
We provide expert analysis of the policies and regulations in various sectors of European economies, including EU policies and directives. We constantly monitor the regulatory change occurring in the energy and environment sectors of EU member countries, alongside EU proposals and directives that could affect investors in those sectors and exporters to the EU market.

  • Commercial Strategy
We advise clients on the best commercial strategies available, based on detailed analysis of the product or service, as well as the target market. With our expertise and experience in many sectors and countries, as well as in risk management, we assess our clients' objectives from various angles and develop alternative strategies for different scenarios.

  • Risk Management
Due to increasing business risk, risk management has become one of the most important areas of LRI's consulting business. We provide services in two areas: business continuity management (BCM), including the development of a BCM system for an organisation; and risk management for a specific project. Our services are based primarily on knowledge and experience in the operations and management of assets.

  • Survey, Statistical Analysis and Modelling
We undertake survey and statistical data collection. We can further carry out data processing and analysis by using statistical packages such as SAS and SPSS. We also perform modelling exercises, including market simulations based on game theory.

1. Energy & Environment

LRI staff constantly monitor and analyse industry reform and market development in the energy sector in European countries, assessing changing market liberalisation, and new and innovative strategies that energy companies have adopted. LRI has also been involved in feasibility studies of energy projects worldwide, including the development of power plants and gas pipelines.

Our activities in the environment sector are centred around two main issues: energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction, and regulations. Regarding the former, we annually review EU countries' renewable energy sectors, focusing on opportunities and risks for investors. With the latter, we provide the latest information on the EU's environmental regulations and those of its member countries - this information is supplied to non-EU entities in both the public and private sectors, including research institutions and exporters. In addition, we support the import and export of environmental technologies.

2. Infrastructure Development and PFI

Private Finance Initiative (PFI) has become a popular government procurement method for large-scale projects in the UK. The use of PFI has resulted in significant change in the ways public works are financed, and public infrastructure is operated and maintained. For example, the importance of asset management focused on return on investment has increased with the use of PFI. Our accumulated knowledge and experience with PFI enables us to develop project and financial structures suitable for projects in various sectors and to provide consultancy services in the operation and maintenance of various types of public infrastructure.

We have supported infrastructure development projects by providing professionals, such as economists, environmental experts, engineers, regulatory experts for network infrastructure, and by furnishing feasibility study reports. We have also prepared a publication primarily for the consultants working for infrastructure development projects: Land Acquisition Manual.

3. Information Technology

LRI staff have technical expertise in traditional and innovative IT environments, with experience of system design, implementation and operation. This expertise and experience is used in all research and consulting exercises. We monitor European IT industries on such issues as e-government programmes and IT procurement practices. We also undertake research into software packages if requested. Apart from research and consulting, we also develop databases and other IT solutions.

4. Other Sectors

In response to the needs of our clients, we undertake research and consultancy projects in diverse areas. The projects are often complex and necessitate the participation of experts from different fields. LRI provides in-depth management of the implementation processes for these projects to ensure that efficient work practices are adopted and clear documentation is produced.
