European Companies' Experience in CDM Projects in Asia, including Support Programmes by Bilateral Financial Institutions

The objectives of this project were to review projects in Asia undertaken by EU- and US-based companies in the areas of renewable energy development and energy efficiency improvement, and to study support programmes for those projects by EU and US bilateral financial institutions.

We provided detailed information of selected relevant projects including project data, financial structure, perceived risks, etc. The report highlighted the innovative methods by which bilateral financing institutions are making finance available for renewable energy, loans for R&D in the renewable energy sector by the European Investment Bank and sub-sovereign lending by the US Export-Import Bank.

Methods of Measuring CO2 Absorption by Forestry: Remote Sensors and GIS Systems

In this project, assessment was made in respect to the current status of European remote sensing technologies and GIS systems for measuring the absorption of CO2 by forests. There was a notable difference among the countries studied, i.e., Germany, France, Sweden and Russia, in terms of efforts made to develop systems to analyse remote sensing data for that purpose. No current technologies are sufficient to measure CO2 absorption without additional on-site data collection.
