The Senior Team Members
Teruhiko Tsumura is principal founder and Managing Director of LRI. He has implemented engineering and consultancy projects in more than 30 countries in Asia, Europe, Africa, and North and South America. He spent 15 years as a senior manager and economist for Pacific Consultants International, a leading engineering consulting firm in Japan. He has also worked at the UN in New York and represented the Japanese government at international conferences sponsored by the World Bank, the OECD and other international organisations. He has an extensive network of high-level business contacts in Japan and the UK. His three university degrees include a Masters in Urban Planning from City University of New York (Hunter College).
Michael Prior, LRI's senior energy adviser, is an energy and environmental economist with 30 years' experience with the World Bank, OECD, SIDA and IEA. He was director of the Stockholm Environmental Institute in York between 1991 and 1993, and director of the Energy Restructuring Group in Poland in 1996 and 1997. He has worked widely in the CIS and Bulgaria, Estonia, Romania and Slovenia . He has advised international corporations on fuel supply issues at strategic and operational levels and on business acquisition programmes. He is the author of a number of publications for professional organisations.
Shizuka Oshitani-Alcoe is Director of Research. She has worked on a number of research projects concerning the European energy market and environmental issues. She graduated from the University of Essex with a PhD in Government where she compared British and Japanese climate change policy. Before joining LRI, she worked for the United Nations Environmental Programme/Regional Office for Asia Pacific as an intern, and also lectured at the Kobe City University of Foreign Studies.
Susan Singleton, LRI's legal adviser, is one of the UK's leading IT lawyers and has practised commercial, competition and intellectual property law for over 15 years. She worked for leading London law firms, Nabarro Nathanson, Slaughter and May, and Bristows, before founding her own firm in 1994. Since then she has advised over 300 UK and overseas clients. Author of 20 legal books, she also has a regular slot on LBC radio and writes for a number of legal journals. She also edits the journals IT Law Today and Telecoms Law Today.
Terence A. Cooper is LRI's senior adviser for projects involving chemical industries. He holds a PhD in Physical Organic Chemistry from Oxford University and an MBA from Drexel University. He has worked in the fields of polymer chemistry, materials technology, and materials-related market development for 38 years. He spent 16 years as a research associate with the Elastomer Chemicals, Polymer Products and Finishes departments at DuPont and eight years as manager of adhesives and sealants R&D, New Polymers R&D and Worldwide Styrene Quality with ARCO Chemical. Present areas of major involvement include water-soluble, biodegradable and bio-based materials, polymer blends and compatibilisation, sustainable packaging, fuel cells, recycling technology, and polymeric light-scattering systems for advanced display screens.
Lyn Jackson is Director and Company Secretary and has a background in international relations and government policy. She worked for the UN in New York for 10 years and supervised elections for independence in Namibia. Following seven years in Japan at the UN University in Tokyo, she worked in Ukraine for the UNHCR. Before joining LRI, she was a founding director and company secretary for Tsumura & Associates, where she conducted research for Japanese research institutes. She graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) with an MSc (Econ.) in international relations, and from Sophia University in Tokyo with a BA in international relations and comparative culture.
Sergey Schukin, LRI's CIS/East Europe expert, is a Kyiv, Ukraine-based private equity investment professional and a director on the board of Yellow Pages of Ukraine - the leading directional media company in the country. His investment management and investment banking career started in 1996. Prior to that, Mr. Schukin received a Master's degree in Regional Studies - Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia - from Harvard University.
Anumita Sharma is a senior expert in LRI's market research division. She is a proven global marketing researcher with experience working in 40 countries for international clients and research agencies. She has extensive skills in strategic marketing research. She has worked for Hauck Research International as a research director and for AC Nielson as an associate director.
